Something not working?

Snapshelf is made by one person. Email it in and a human reads it — usually within a couple of days.

Telling us your device, your iOS version and what you were doing when it went wrong saves a round trip.

Troubleshooting

The scan came out wrong or empty

Text recognition needs a reasonably flat, well-lit page. Try more even light, get the page square in the frame rather than at an angle, and avoid shadows falling across the text. Snapshelf reads the languages your iPhone is set to, so if a page is in a language you have not added to iOS, add it in Settings › General › Language & Region. It is built for printed text rather than handwriting.

A voice I want is not in the list

Snapshelf offers the voices installed on your iPhone. To add more, go to Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices and download the Premium or Enhanced voice you want. It will appear in Snapshelf the next time you open the voice picker.

My snippets are not on my other device

Sync needs Snapshelf Pro, and both devices need to be signed into the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on. Give it a moment on a decent connection — the first sync of a large library takes longer than later ones.

I paid but Pro is not unlocked

Make sure the device is signed into the Apple Account that made the purchase, then use the restore purchases option in the app. If it still will not unlock, email us with the date of purchase and we will sort it out.

I want my subscription cancelled

Subscriptions are handled by Apple, so we cannot cancel one for you. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and cancel there. Deleting the app on its own does not stop the billing.

Quick answers

What languages can Snapshelf scan?

About twenty-five, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Thai and Vietnamese. Snapshelf reads the languages your iPhone is already set to, so it recognises the ones you actually use without you configuring anything. It does not try to read them all at once — recognition is more accurate when it is looking for your languages rather than every language. The exact count moves a little as Apple adds languages to iOS.

Can I get the text out of Snapshelf?

Yes. Any snippet can be shared through the standard iOS share sheet as plain text, along with the scan image where there is one — so it goes to Notes, Messages, Mail or anywhere else you would normally share to. There is no audio file export.

Does it sync between my iPhone and iPad?

Yes, with Snapshelf Pro. Your snippets and playlists sync through your own iCloud account, so a page you scan on your iPhone is waiting on your iPad. There is no Snapshelf account to create — it uses the iCloud you already have.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple, not by Snapshelf. Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and you can cancel there at any time.
